Grapes on a Vine

Alfred Robbins was born in Queens, N.Y. After completing his bachelor’s degree at the State University of New York at Old Westbury, Robbins began a career in the insurance industry. Being an avid movie fan his entire life, Robbins decided to take a few acting classes. He worked as an extra on the hit television show New York Undercover. He also had principal roles in television commercials for the New York MTA as well as Bell Atlantic. Robbins discovered that he was learning more about filmmaking than acting and in 1995 he formed Bottom of the Net Filmworks with cinematographer Derrick Owens and producer Sharlene Falls. Later that year they produced their first short film “One for the Money”. Robbins also completed his first feature length screenplay. In 2001, he wrote, produced and directed the short film “New York Stories” which was selected for the 2001 Huntington Cinema Arts Film Festival.

In 2002 Robbins wrote, produced and directed the short film “Jada Who?”. The film was selected by the 2003 Hollywood Black Film Festival and was screened at the 2003 Pan African Film Festival and the 2003 National Black Arts Festival. “Jada Who?” is being distributed by Simmons / Lathan Media via the Internet and may be seen on network television as part of a short film showcase.

In 2005 Robbins directed the feature film TRUST from a script he wrote. The film premiered at the New Filmmakers screening series at the Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan and was acquired by Maverick Entertainment in 2006 . The title was changed to “The Devil’s Diamond” and the film was
released directly to DVD on July 10, 2007. In 2007 Robbins directed “Grapes on a Vine” from a script he also wrote. The film is now in post production.
